This garment, inspired by Lee Krasner’s “Gaea”, utilizes silk taffeta and chiffon bias strips to emulate the shape and movement of the artwork. Featuring a voluminous pegged skirt, boned bodice, and an iridescent bishop sleeve, these design choices reflect the feel of the painting. Each bias strip was gathered and sewn by hand. This garment was featured in the Fashion Institute of Technology’s AAS exhibition, themed “A Work of Art,” displayed from December 7th 2022 to January 29th 2023.
